Small is fine. The problem I have with gauges that go beyond 4000 psi is; for my use I will never use that upper portion of the scale. If the scale went to 4000 then you could read the gradations better. Especially in the 500 psi range or lower end where it is most important to know if you got 100 or 500 psi left.
