you may want to try and make it to Derawan, Sangalakki, and Kakaban Islands to the south. Those three islands are part of Indonesian Borneo, so depending on the local civil unrest, getting there could be a challenge. Nonetheless, Sangalakki has the best coral reefs i've seen anywhere, Kakaban has an inland jellyfish lake like Palau's only much more diverse and in much better shape. Derawan has some nice shore-diving (the Jetty) and some other great local areas as well. Bring the macro lens and wide angle both!
