With a balanced rig ( we're talking wetsuit here) most divers have all the weight in the weighbelt and would rocket to the surface if they needed to ditch.
By balancing the rig, if you need to ditch you ditch enough to get off the bottom but not enough to risk an AGE. Furthermore, there is no bouyancy differenetial in a BP, it's the same weight no matter hos much air is in the tank...
