Below is a reply that I made to a similar question last week. All that I can add is that if you have a drysuit - bring it! The water has been in the mid - upper 40's F lately.

Your best bet will be to go down to Monterey. That will be about a 2-hour or so drive (which is not really long for N. CA). There are
several good dive shops in Monterey - Monterey Bay Dive Center (http://MBDC.to), Aquarius dive shop, etc. The Monterey Express,
the Cypress Point and the Cypress Sea are good dive boats. The ME might be the best choice for a diver new to the area.
What is your cold-water diving experience. It is very different from warm water diving. If you are not experienced with cold water, talk
with a dive shop about gear and possibly getting a local guide.
