There must be different designs. Most divers have a quick disconnect for the power inflator and dry suit so these contraptions are pretty widely accepted. They have an advantage to be able to isolate and disconnect any air loss in the system. I had a power inflator stick one time and was very happy to have an easy quick disconnect otherwise I was surface bound.
