It was a porthole ring. This brass piece fits inside the interior of the porthole and holds a screen securely in place.

NEXT DIVE I GET THE PORTHOLE.

I was simply doing too much down there. I was tooling with one hand and shooting with the other. That BBQ'd Calico Bass was good.
