It also mentions pH variances. I'm no physiologist, but I know in geochemical systems CO2 can really screw with pH. From watching "The Andromeda Strain" I know that variances in CO2 levels in the body radically alter blood pH. Do you have any other information on the possible role CO2 loading plays in RBC rigidity?

Isn't it great. I just quoted a horribly off-topic research area, and a movie. My "Scientific Writing" prof. would probably have flogged me publicly. "Death to the passive voice!"
