"If you are D/M-ing for a scuba store, you
probably have negative cash flow, because
the store is making money off your OWSI
aspirations. Most D/Ms that I know are
OWSI-wanna-be's. "

Well, your statement proves one thing, you don't
know me. I don't DM for a store, but I DM for a
couple of boats who's customers think highly
enough of me to ask for me in their repeat
business with the re-booking of their chareters.

I have absolutely no freaking aspirations
to become an OWI... PERIOD! Yet I am able
to make enough cash after costs to make a
sizable contribution to one of may favorite
charities. But I do work damned hard to earn
that money.

I have other ways of 'educating' others ouside
of my 'professional' aspirations.

I DM ALOT off a couple of SoCal boats. If I
wanted to, I could work 4 days a week or more
on those boats.

You are right in one observation... the only
people making high $ per hour in the SCUBA
field are the instructors. Since I have a real
job in an unrelated field... I don't have to
make a 'proft' in my SCUBA DM'ing activities.
I realize that orgs like PADI and NAUI tease
most up in coming divers that DM'ing is the
first step in becoming a 'highly paid SCUBA
professional, but as most of us already know
that a line of corporate marketing crap.

Besides, who really loves this sport and wants
to make a total living at it? I am a realist,
I know better and lay a better plan for my
'professional' future.
