that by letting you do the AOW to get to the Rescue Certification, they'll be helping you to be a much better diver. You should be commended for wanting to get Rescue Certified, not condemmed. If their overall concern is for your safety, it might help if you could get them to sit down with your dive instructor of choice so he/she can explain the details of the course. I'm sure once they understand how AOW and Rescue will make you a better, more safety-conscious diver, they'll be more inclined to let you continue your education.
