"How can you be *more DIR than you think*, when, as I understand from your posts, you solo and have a gear configuration that runs counter productive to the DIR philosophy????"
In contrast to its fathers, DIR is not a take-it-all-or-leave-it philosophy to me. I reserve the right for me to adopt what I feel is good and discard (for now) what I think I don't need or want.
Using a dive alert and thus adding "failure points" to my gear configuration for the benefit of added safety is one of my choices, as is continuing to solo dive on occasion or to separate from a buddy on mutual agreement.
Since I heard of DIR, I am convinced that I would enjoy a DIR Fundamentals class and that I'd learn a lot from it. I'm sold on the message but not on the medium.
