Fred's backplates are made a bit differently; extra slots to accommodate different body shapes, a little deeper "V", and holes to accept almost everyone's wings.
They're a "DIY" sort of item, laser cut, so the edges need a little polishing. $15 extra to have all the edges rounded off.
Fred's STA is very stable as well. They're done so nicely that I almost bought a few, and I don't even USE a BC.
