Thanks all - I appreciate the feedback to this thread. Its good to know there's some good instructors in the chain and at the Brea location in particular. I've known my friend since we were 10 or so, and I just wanted to be reasonably sure he was going to get good instruction - since we hopefully will be diving together. The specific questions to ask as suggested by Wayne and others are very helpful.
Unfortunately, I can't accompany my friend to the store as I no longer live in Calilfornia (but would like to move back in a year or so) - I'm stuck out on the East Coast but try to get back to California at least a couple times a year. This BBS helps me keep in touch with what's going on out there.
