I remember that scene - I recall it being in a movie. Stewart had grabbed a large Shovelnose Guitarfish and ticked it off, so it arced around and bit his fin tip. He was hovering above the bottom, had one arm free, and I recall him referring the resulting swimming motion "the Stewart stroke".
I seem to remember him showing us a pretty good scar on one of his arms.
