I do think that in my non "extreme" OW dives that it IS a safe and cost effective alternative to huge cash outlay. I am NOT sacrificing quality AND I do more frequent guage checks than most due to the fact that I want (WANT) to balance my air use This IS NOT in a planned OE dive with critical life dependant calculations being made and I would not dare to suggest that the practice be carried over into such a situation BUT I am able to afford a better Regulator and some time in a beautiful pristine and primitive environment (secluded Baja Beach) by not having to spend the extra $ (500-1000 is a LOT to me!)at the same time I don't worry if the guy at that last little shop bent something causing a potentially terrible calamity!
