with the dive float, you can start "swimming" sooner, if you lie on top of it in about 2 feet of water. on dry land or dry rocks, you still have the problem of walking, of course.
it always take two people to help wildlife. one to hold the animal carefully, and the other to resolve the problem, usually fishhooks. barbed fishhooks should be illegal in the Ocean. too much other wildlife at risk. i am surprised some environmetalist group has not thought of this already.
leather gloves for both people helping would be good.
the animal will have a few minutes of severe trauma, sure. therefore the rescuers should work quickly and not unnecessarily lengthen the time needed.
it also helps to crouch down and make yourself seem small while doing this. all animals, birds, and fish are afraid of big things like people.
