"No teflon tape. That fitting is air-tight because of the small o-ring ( # 48511 or 48512 ). Those threads are not designed to have something as thick as teflon tape between them. In order to seat the o-ring you would have to over torque the fitting."

Just to add the threads aren't designed to hold back air as Kevin said it's the o-ring. I've tried several different length hoses so I know this is true. On one setup that I tried a 39" with a swivel attached routed under the arm. Worked alright for awhile until something damaged the swivel, I think a tank landed on it and it free flowed(damaged internal o-ring). So I'm back full circle to the standard length routed in the normal way. I've found this is the most comfortable and convenient way for the type of sport diving I do.
