Mike, I am one of those "lurkers" who actually met you at the scuba show and I agree with most of what you say. I feel fortunate with my PADI instructor, he did not just go thru the motions, he was genuinely sincere and if a student was having problems he stayed right there with them until they got it correctly. We also had an assistant that was there who supervised the other 3 divers while the instructor worked with one student. The 3 on the side were to practice what was preached. I therefore felt I had a good solid training. Afterwards, I made it a point to go diving as much as possible (logged 20 dives in first 4 months) so that I could fine tune what was taught.
I agree that there should be an expiration date on C Cards, every year or every other year with a mandatory number of times required before reissue or you have to take a refresher course.
I would also like to join you at Casino Point as schedules permit. Always willing to learn new or better ways.
