Aren't they awesome. They aggregate to the shallow water this time of year to spawn. The largest one recorded was 7' long and 573 lbs. I was privileged to encounter a group of 4 large, one of them 6' 400 lbs estimated, hovering in thick kelp. The large one was jet black and looked like a rock, the others were spotted. They can change color from black to spotted to light countershade in seconds. Divers swam back and forth and didn't even notice us, it was funny.
