Sounds like you feel burnt. Believe me, I can relate to that. I hit a major burn out point a couple of months ago, took a break and went on vacation.
I insist that instructors cover my lodging costs and dive related costs. I just am against seeing instructional DM'ing primarily as a way to make money. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to pay to work. Although I must include that I do think that a DM should prove their value first by doing a lot a class work as an extended internship. I know some people who went from DM to instructor in less than a year and did very little DM work in that time. I won't work for them.
