Without knowing the motivations of your friend (although you may have hit the nail on the head when you said he wanted you to take a Master Diver course from him), it's hard to say what his beef is. The only thing this DIR demo will cost you is boat fair and the cost of air fills. Yes, MHK will recommend some equipment configurations, but he won't try to sell you anything. He's not a salesman and he's not an instructor, so there's no profit motive there. He genuinely wants to share his knowledge so that folks will be safer divers. That's it. End of story.

I've attended several of these demos and have always come away with something new and helpful. The demos MHK gives are taylored to Southern California diving with just a bit of background about DIR's Florida origins. Everything he teaches is applicable and useful for the kind of recreational diving we do HERE.

Go. You won't be sorry. You'll learn some new stuff, meet some very nice folks, and have a great time.
