Who is this instructor that says attending a demo
"is a waste of time and money"? I am curious if he
has even even attended a DIR demo and witnessed it
first hand, or is he just blowing smoke up your
skirt in an attempt to sell you his brand of
continuing education. NAUI, IMO, is one of the more
credible mainstream orgs out there. It's instructors
like your that can give NAUI a bad rap with his
attitude.

We (at least MHK and I) make absolutely 0 financial
gain before and after costs for presenting these
events. Everything from the banner, to the EZ-Up,
to our Catalina Express tix, hotel rooms, to our
air fills comes out of our pockets. The company
that gives us the gear to allow divers to demo is
given to us on a borrowed basis but provides $0
in support of our efforts. I task you instructor
to provide facts where there is an "alterrior (sp?)
motive" is at play here.

The DIR Demo events are a passion for us, we want
everyone to experience and at least learn something
from the event. We obviously don't do it for the
money. As it has been stated MANY times before, it
costs you nothing to attend or demo the gear configs.
Outside of you transportation to Avalon, your air
fills, and your own personal gear - everything is
free. For the amount of information you will receive,
it's a great value.

I am a certified and professionally insured DM
through NAUI. I took the NAUI Master Diver course
as a pre-requisite for AI and DM from one of SoCal
s most experienced and thourough instructors.
Believe me that there is much more to learn in
getting well rounded and advanced training than the
pages of a text book or frames off a CD-ROM from
NAUI, as complete as they may seem.
