Just about the only time I ascend an anchor line is when diving a wreck in SD and that's not my idea of good diving. I also usually leave that line, because all the knuckle heads doing strange things on it. It seems that the divers that know their stuff and want to ascend that way, use lines
Besides, when holding an anchor line, getting to the BC hose or depth guage is far less important. Your hold on the line should allow you to control bouyancy and ascent well enough that getting to those should be easy and far less critical. Admittedly, my knowledge of that is limited. I just do un-tethered ascents. They aren't hard to learn.
As I said, I like my arms free for swimming, brachiating and grabbing.
