i really want to let it go now, since we both have
said what we each wanted to say, but there is
just one small q.

you say that you think it's dangerous if i clip
off my console to the line. now, i've done this
and can tell you that the clip is actually
'loose' on the line, meaning that the eye of the clip is
slightly larger in diameter than the diameter of the anchor
line (which is not metal, but rope--or nylon, or
whatever the material of the day is--but not metal!!
for what it's worth, the metalic portion of the anchor
line is further down the line from where i do my safety stop).

the console can easily slide up and down w/in a reasonable
distance w/o being 'fixed' to the anchor line.

you say that clipping the console to the line is
dangerous in the case of swells. i understand
what you mean and i acknowledge the use of the
'jon line' for this specific purpose(...although you did
not respond to my query as to the use of the
'jon line' when currents are strong).

anyway, here then is my q:

1st you were asking about my suggestion
as it related to current, and now you mention
swells.

2nd of all, isn't using a 'jon line' under both
of those conditions even safer than clipping
or holding onto the line?

3rd of all, if having my console clipped to the line is
"dangerous" in the case of swells, why is using
a 'jon line' any less dangerous?

remember, i mentioned that clipping the console
onto the line is effectively using a 'jon line'...at
least that's the way i see it...

in any event, i sincerely thank you for your post,
perhaps one day i will act upon it.

= : )

kelphead.
