He told me that the diver had only a split second to react. He was already lined up for a school of yellowtail just below him. When they split, the G W was right behind them, open-mouthed, coming straight for the diver. I was told he fired on instinct, saw the spear shaft go down the shark's gullet, then dropped the $600 gun and hightailed it to the boat. This sounds like one of those rare instances when the diver didn't have much choice.
