Garret was a decrepit old man. He was always in everyones business. Anyone who SMOKES is a moron period, diver or not.
Last year was the first time I met him. It was at Scuba 2000. I was telling an associate about an ear problem I developed from cave diving and this rinkled old timer spoke out from behind me saying that I definately had a vestibular dcs hit. I laughed at him and he didn't appriciate that. Oh well!
He liked to teach diving on his Aspiration rebreather. This is a very bad practice in my opinion. But so is diving any fully closed circuit breathing box. When an instructor is required to respond quickly a rebreather could hault any response do to hypercapnia, hypoxia and hyperoxia.
