i think that if anyone cares about diver
safety and wanting to prevent deaths, etc,
then someone needs to give this person,
who truly may not realize how 'evil' the dive
industry is, what he/she is asking for:
some solid advice.
this person may indeed be clueless, so why not
clue this person in.
this person should be given a candid opinion
in an encouraging tone of why he/she should
indeed take a refresher course, and how to
look for quality instruction in their area.
this person should be made aware of the real
potential for danger, harm, injury, and/or death
if he/she does not take the review course seriously
enough; or this person should be told to consider
not diving at all while on vacation.
this person should be counseled as someone would
counsel their own loved one, or a dear friend.
that's all, nothing more and nothing less.
...so, has anyone contacted this person yet to offer
some heartfelt advice and to hopefully prevent
a tragedy...?...

ps. i didn't follow the c-card thread, but i have
always thought it was a good idea to renew one's
c-card, having to prove one's skills every so often
(every year or two would be good); however, i
remember jim hoffman filling us in on some
history on this board where the city of l.a. wanted to do
just that and had passed a law in the same vein,
but the divers of that day were successful in
repealing that law. i think it's a shame.
