it seems like if you wait to switch over to your bottom mix until 100' depth, then the heliox or trimix could be quite cold, and it might startle you alright when you breath it in.
even if youre bottom mix is 15% O2, then you could start breathing it as soon as 33 fsw, and the switchover to the cold gas wouldnt be as dramatic as at greater depth.
not much is known about respiratory shock. but occasionally a famous deep tech diver disappears on a solo dive. this article may have uncovered the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).
