You said it yourself.
As far as someone else "respecting" your card, it's going to be your obvious command or lack of diving skill that will earn/lose your fellow divers respect.
At this time the requirments for both NAUI and PADI are very similar with the exception of the required skin dive and some additional academics on the NAUI side.
A good Instructor is more valuable than and certain agency card. Take a recommendation over a lable.
