You should get the beach dives in. Many of the popular beach diving sites do require more skill and knowledge than boat dives. Also, you will almost always dive them without a divemaster which is contrary to most of the boat dives you are likely to do. Therefore, I recommend that beach dives be part of your OW certifcation program.
