I don't think so. The whole dive was shallow and depth stayed fairly constant at around 25-30' and he didn't have a cold or complain of any trouble equalizing. The symptoms looked a lot like seasickness to me, but its hard to imagine that - the conditions were pretty calm. Another thought - the water was quite cold (~57 degrees) and neither of us was wearing hoods... Maybe his core temp dropped and his body freaked out? He grew up in the Marshall Islands (Quad, the lucky bastard) diving every day so maybe he isn't used to the cold.
