Things may never be that good again, unless drastic action is taken. Spearfishermen are not innocent in the depletion of our waters. They took the biggest and the best. In doing so, they (unwittingly) removed the most vital breeders from the populations of many common species in OUR waters. Some populations of resident fish are so diminished that every mature breeder is an important asset to the overall recovery of the specie.
(This is not an outright condemnation of spearfishing. Commercial and recreational fishing have done far more damage)
