I've heard from my friends up in Santa Barbara that a carcass which had been filleted was found off of Anacapa Island about a year ago. So this is becoming more and more frequent. The real problem is that there is no disincentive to poaching and there is so little manpower from DFG on the water to check up on this, so poaching is very easy for those with no sense of sportsmanship or personal honor. It is out and out self-greed and stupidity.

Also, it is not restricted to spearfishing. There was an article in one of the weekly news rags about a guy that drove up to the King Harbor fuel dock with a BSB on a fishing rod, held it up and asked "what is this?", then sped off (draging BSB behind boat like a water-skier) when told that it was a big fine to have that fish in his possession. The dumb ass could have just taken it off the hook and put it back in the water.

Sad but true, most folks have no F*'ing clue.
