I would simply like to add that if you encounter an out of air diver, chances are you won't hand off, he (she) will rip the reg from your mouth, and in his/her stressed state, may not give it right back to you. My backup is around my neck where I can find it even in zero viz, but at the very least you should have a secondary where you can get your hands (and mouth) on it quickly.
