I think what was meant by memory as far as the harness is concerned, is does it hold it's shape? Imagine the invisible man wearing your BP/harness. You would notice it's "shape" of the straps. This is a good feature in strong currents if you have need to doff/don your rig. With the softer harness it might flap in the current making it a bear to put back on. Hope this clears it up.
