you can carry the lift bag, which is very compact for up to an 85 lb capacity, in your B/C pocket. it then serves as a lift bag when you need it, such as for raising someone else's weight belt, or for raising something else that you may have found; and it additionally it serves as back-up floatation in case your B/C floatation device fails.
you could always drop your weight belt or weight pouches in case your B/C floatation device failed, but that would lead to an uncontrolled EBA ascent. with a spare lift bag in your B/C pocket, your ascent could be controlled by bleeding air from the bag as you ascend. this would even allow you to perform a normal safety stop or deco stop, as needed.
another good idea would be a spare mask in your other B/C pocket.
since this would take up both your pockets in your B/C, you could get gear pouches and add them to your B/C or backplate rig in order to carry other stuff you might need while diving.
thats what i do, exactly. i never leave home to go diving without them.
