I've been teaching horizontal ascents and descents to my OW students from the get go, the "skydiver" profile allows more time for students to get the feel for buoyancy changes on both trips to the site. This is nothing new, it's also not anyone’s standard, it just makes sense.

What kills me, and makes me want to kill others, is Instructors that teach the feet first descent but never bother to explain all the factors of buoyancy. Like “if you continue to kick while you’re trying to descend you will not be able to sink and you will stupidly return to the boat and ask for more weight, much to the dive boat’s amusement”.

The feet first vertical positioned descent in something that has no practical value at all. NONE. All problems that are encountered on descent are best handled in a horizontal position; better control, better buoyancy characteristics.

Yeah.
