West Marine and any other boating supply store has charts available. BTW, I made more than 25 trips from San Pedro to Catalina in my old 12 foot inflatable. I now have a 22' cuddy cabin. A 40' yacht should take you anywhere in Southern California. I also strongly suggest you take the Coast Guard auxilliary's boating safety course.
