Why just the comparison of So Cal to Florida? I've dove here is So Cal, Puget Sound, Phillipins, Fiji, and this sept I'm heading to Borneo. Every place has it's special needs to watch for. I've never dove florida caves, but hear the water is cold, requiring thermal protection like we need. Super clear water like caves and some south pacific islands causes people to lose persepective on depth, something I've experienced in both Fiji and Phillipiens, and have been warned is a problem in Borneo. Low vis? The atlantic, and many estuaries in Florida can get to be low to zero viz. I've been snorkling in the gulf when it was like liquid sand, and cold, (winter) just like Shaws Cove.
