On the bottom I keep it full open. Because I keep so little gas in the suit at depth, I have to really contort to get gas out so having it open doesn't mean I'm dumping gas. Conversely, if I suffered a stuck inflator valve at depth, I'd want the dump valve full open to buy time until I could pull the hose.

As I reach the shallow stops of a deco dive, I crank the valve half closed as I let the suit blow up. I do this to increase warmth on the inactive part of the dive-see post to Eins.
