What I like about the Manta is the notched spool that engages when I release the spring handle, especially when ascending. I made some slick modifications to mine, showed it to the Manta reps at Scuba 2000, and they could have cared less. Another example of gear designed by non-divers. I had to beef up the spool handle, cut two additional notches in the spool, replace the little brass clips, get rid of the kite string and replace it with thicker line. This of course reduced the total length to 130 ft., but since I dive no deeper than 100 ft. it's a perfect length.
