They have fought long and hard against food sterilization through
irradiation. This method can make meats, milk, etc. safe to store without
refrigeration for extremely long periods of time. Milk that does not need to
be cold until after it is opened. And meat that can be taken to anywhere in
the world and safely consumed is a boon to mankind. Here in America we have
seen many people (mostly children and the elderly) die of food poisoning from
chicken and hamburgers. Just think that is all preventable. But one
organization lead the fight to scare everyone out of the desire to do this.
The did this by giving false information and by using terms designed to scare
people.I finally got one of the big wheel scientists involved at Greenpeace
to tell me the truth about it. They are against nuclear power. Therefore
anything "nuclear" must be demonized to look bad or people might embrace
nuclear power. Since the adoption of widespread food irradiation could mean
a use for certain by products of nuclear power, it might make nuclear power
look like it has a place in our world. Therefore, food sterilization and the
lives that it would save are a small price they are willing ot pay in their
overall plan to rid the world of nuclear fission. If they were just about
saving whales, I would feel differently about them. But they have proven
themselves to be way off target in my book.
