The San Diego Union-Tribune reported this morning that a diver was missing off La Jolla (sorry, I can't figure out a way to link directly to the article).
The missing diver and a friend went boat diving at about 3 am early Sunday morning. The boat had no radio or cell phone. They became separated during the dive. One diver surfaced to look for and reconnect with his buddy. The other did not surface. The first diver waited about 90 minutes in the boat, then headed for shore. He had engine trouble on the way back. Once onshore, he put the boat away, then called the Coast Guard from home. The missing diver was not certified. The missing diver had apparently been drinking before the dive. The search was called off at dark after about 9 hours.
