Yeah, right on. Maybe if GUE can get more instructors here there'll be a quality choice for certification. Of course PADI will fight back accusing GUE of being a tech only cert agency, that PADI's for "diving fun", etc. As for gear, the shops are between a rock and a hard place: cheap crap has the highest markup, hence a greater profit margin. I don't think instructors are instructed to push the crap but I strongly suspect it's implied. I don't need to witness the Casino Point madness, I see it enough on open boat trips.
