Last year I changed to a new mask. Picked based on how it fit, of course. It had a purge gizmo, but I kept an open mind and bought the mask anyway (never used one of these things before).
I LOVE IT. There are always a few drops of water that manage to enter the mask during a dive. Often from my uncontrollable laughter. With the purge mask, the mask is always 100% dry. Normal equalizing lets any water out. I would never try to do a full purge with the valve because it would be too much effort. But once the mask is on the face and empty, it stays that way.
