You experienced the fraying probably because of lack of a proper radius on the slot edges.
I hope ya grabbed a file & some emrery cloth & fixed that first. An extra layer of "chafing fabric" around the slots on vety thin BP material is also sometimes in order.
A good stitched harness attachment can be MUCH more secure than a continuous piece of webbing that's threaded through sharp corners.
