"The crotch strap keeps the unit from moving forward. This is critical in maintaining trim and thus bouyancy."

My unit does NOT move forward and my trim and buoyancy are just fine. The reason the crotch strap is important for most Halcyon rig users is the necessity to have the shoulder straps loose to get in and out of the unit. With loose shoulder straps the rig tends to ride up and down. The crotch strap holds the unit down, sqeezing the male "plumbing" in the process. THAT I find uncomfortable and unnecessary.
For this maverick yahoo, non holistic diver dude, all these things are tools to be adjusted, fine tuned, and adapted to our personal, private use. I am NOT advocating making my changes for anyone but myself. But it sure looks cute now and dives like a dream. Halcyon rules as long as I Dive It Right My Way.
