For some reason the SCUBA industry seems to have standardized on the totally non-defensible threshold of 40%.

Gawd, could you imagine the mess if we followed the CGA standard?

Actually, on second thought, probably not much of a mess. If the SCUBA industry moved to the CGA standard, divers would continue what they're doing with the same equipment that they're doing it with now and nothing would change.

About the only visible difference is that shops would require O2 clean cylinders even for pre-blended Nitrox.
