Brian,
I just got back from a trip to Vancouver Island. While I was there I had a chance to dive on one of the Yukon's sister ships, the Columbia, which went down in 1996. It was cool to see what the Yukon will likely look like in a few years (although with different species, of course). Swimming scallops, huge lings, metridia and other kinds of anenomes, sunflower stars, exotic tunicates, tube worms, etc. Still not as much life as the Ruby E yet, but getting there. Altogether, the diving in BC was amazing. I loved the wolf eels and the dogfish; I didn't get to see an octopus though -- a good reason to go back.
By the way, when you're down in San Diego again you might want to contact Jim Strickland at www.hydrodiver.com. He runs a six-pack boat that will basically go wherever you want.
Regards,
Jon
