I tend to carry the pony on deeper dives below 80'. I sometimes use an H valve setup, but not solely on the deepest dives. Above 60 or 80' I am comfortable without either, there is always a free ascent option. Above 60 - 80' I find the pony less desirable with the weight off center. The H valve is the better option IMO, no center mass issue and one less cylinder to lug. My concern with the H is it only takes one burst disk failure to jeopardize the system. So for the deeper dives I carry the pony. I have only had a couple of bursts disks fail however never while in the water.
