To get this board back on a more positive tone, I'm borrowing an idea from a posting on another BBS.

To get the ball rolling, here are some of the reasons I dive (in no particular order):

To enjoy the feeling of weightlessness

To see fascinating creatures in their natural environment

To wash the cobwebs out of my brain

To forget stressful days at the office

To escape the heat

Because pagers and phones don't work underwater

Because the hiss and woosh of a regulator sounds like music to me

Because you really can't tell what the vis is like until you're down there

Because the longer you spend underwater, the more cool stuff you see

Because the longer you spend underwater, the more at home you feel

So I'll be ready to dive with my kids when they're old enough

Because I find kelp forests to be more spiritual places than churches

To find solitude

To find companionship

To get exercise

Because my son thinks divers are cool

To have an excuse to buy expensive toys

Because California has some of the best diving in the world
